Public Good in ESD
The Principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) are a fundamentally important social and environmental initiative which by necessity corrects the former imbalance from the rights of individuals towards an ecologically sustainable future for communities, in the Public Good. It follows that the rights of individuals must be diminished in order to provide an ecologically sustainable future for communities, for the Public Good. The public is a community of individuals.
The Former Balance
The former balance placed much weight on the rights of the individual. The principle which has been driving this imbalance I call the “Greed is Good” Principle. On this point, I observe Governments and Corporations are both representatives of the community and also a person (i.e. an individual) in their own right.
Ecologically Sustainable Development
The thrust of ESD is designed to rebalance the equation towards recognising the rights and obligations of the community as a whole.

The principles of ESD are of course equitable principles themselves, and in their prescriptive and explicit statutory expression must be applied by Governments in their almost absolute discretion in making decisions and Determinations on the Regulatory, Planning, Governance, Development, Economic, Ecological, Environmental and Social Justice matters which are in question.
Running diametrically against the Principles of ESD is the collapsing world economy, peak oil and climate change, which are discussed on the "Globalisation and Unsustainability" , "Exponential Growth & Its Limits" and "Paradigm Shift" Pages.
