It's a real pity only a few people understand how things accelerate with exponential growth. Free Market Capitalism got it just plain wrong. There are Limits to Growth, and we have reached them.
Thomas Kuhn, who invented and popularised the term paradigm shift, described human history as "periods of tranquillity, punctuated by intellectually violent social, economic and environmental revolutions."

Ecologically Sustainable Triple Bottom Lines |
By and large the economic, social and environmental triple bottom line decisions to date have been made on free market rules which had little regard for the environment. This Greed is Good economic philosophy has seen the almighty dollar rule, and our society has become its servant, with our environment a very poor last.
In order to deliver ecologically sustainable development triple bottom lines, Professor Ian Lowe of the Australian Conservation Foundation urges us to make our society a subset of our environment and our economy a subset of society.
The quantum leap required to adapt to such new fundamentals was described by Thomas Kuhn to be a "Paradigm Shift", and its' antithesis as "paradigm paralysis", causing "Regulatory Capture".
